The Ancient Kingdom was said to be big, proud, and strong, but all mentions of it and its history have been erased, and even its name is a secret. So, the Ancient Kingdom must be hidden somewhere that’s hard to find or too dangerous to go to. The only place where it might still be hidden after 800 years is the Calm Belt because it’s so difficult for anyone to travel through. Only the Marines can get through it, but they don’t dive.

Trafalgar Law never went through it, even though he could have used his submarine to take a shortcut from North Blue to the New World. Additionally, when Jinbe traveled to the ocean floor and found the Ancient Kingdom, he saw Sea Kings living there, which made the journey dangerous even for him.

In my head canon, the Calm Belt is something artificial. There must be a reason it exists, and it might be that the World Government created it to keep people away from the Ancient Kingdom. When the Ancient Kingdom lost the war against the Twenty Kingdoms, Poseidon might have decided to protect the Ancient Kingdom for 800 years by sending sea kings to guard it.
