The Fall of Dressrosa

The backstory of Dressrosa is undeniably tragic, but the kingdom’s response to the situation seems perplexingly naive. When Doflamingo threatened the kingdom, the king capitulated almost immediately. Later, when the supposedly benevolent king demanded an outrageous sum of money and then randomly slaughtered civilians, no one seemed suspicious.

Given the presence of numerous devil fruits with mental manipulation abilities, it’s surprising that no one questioned whether the king might have been manipulated. In a world with many devil fruits that influence the mind, one might expect that someone would consider this possibility, especially given that Doflamingo himself has a devil fruit that allows him to control bodies, though not minds directly.

However, mental manipulation devil fruits are actually quite rare. Doflamingo’s power allows him to control people’s bodies but not their minds, which is a unique ability and not widely known. The only true mind-changing abilities we’ve seen are:

  • Jango’s Hypnosis: A non-devil fruit ability, exclusive to him.
  • Mrs. Goldenweek’s Color Theory: Also not based on a devil fruit and unique to her.
  • Lafitte’s Abilities: Possibly related to a devil fruit, though this is not confirmed.

The closest we get to mind manipulation is Sugar’s devil fruit, which causes mass amnesia, but it’s a very specific and secretive ability.

In summary, while mental manipulation abilities exist, they are rare, and Doflamingo’s power is not directly related to altering minds. Despite this, the lack of suspicion among Dressrosa’s people regarding the king’s behavior, given the context, remains baffling.
